Hullo forum,

I just got hired as an RCA and I got a letter telling me I am scheduled for "Orientation for New Employees" or 1. It says it is going to last 2 one/2 days and that I need to have closed shoes. I'm curious if anyone tin can offer me some insight of what is going to happen in these couple of days since I'k kinda feeling nervous about it. I actually don't like orientations or having to speak and talk about my life. In all my previous jobs that has been my experience, merely so again it was sales and they only lasted a few hours. Whatever insight would exist appreciated!

I'm not an RCA, I'thousand a TE but I am assuming about orientations are similar. Your'due south is merely two.5 days though, mine was 4 so there will probably be some differences I guess.

Orientation was pretty much sitting at a desk while getting paid all day. At that place were over 25 people in my orientation though, so in that location was no demand for any of us to discuss our lives. We saturday at tables/desks and went over a booklet well-nigh the company. Different people came in through the course of the days and told the states about things to do with the USPS, like safe, safety, safety..do yous get my point? They are HUGE on safety...at least at the corporate level. Policies, history, ethics, etc. You will spotter videos, you will probably have many breaks. My first solar day, we took a total of three hours worth of breaks. The second and 3rd solar day, for me, were near driver safety preparation, and then a road test in the LLV (mail truck) Information technology will exist the easiest part of your unabridged USPS career so enjoy getting paid to sit at that place.

I am almost done. I am in the middle of Carrier Academy and it is more than of simply sitting around and getting paid.

      Relax NKOTB,

Orientation is a classroom type setting (there were nearly twenty+ in my class) where you will watch videos (more often than not safety related) and then answer questions on what you watched.

You lot volition possibly tour a USPS facility.

They will accept your photo for your ID bluecoat, fingerprint you and a fun time will be had past all.

I don't recall what else, but it's a piece of block!

OH! Keep up with your mileage.... When I attended orientation, we were reimbursed for our mileage TO and FROM where the class was held.

They will also probably attempt and go you to sign up for the os marrow donation registry too. (I did)

Don't sweat the Academy, just exist prepared to learn a lot in a short time. Proceed in mind, those of us who teach these classes are rural carriers.

We desire you to succeed.  Nosotros're not there to "gotcha".  Don't be afraid to enquire questions.  Accept the textile (or your notes) to your office.  We practise our all-time to prepare you generally to be a rural carrier and specifically to run your route.

            We're on your side.

            Good luck.

Advice from a Vet. Ignore the suits, mind to the people who actually practise the chore!

I have been with the USPS for a calendar month now. One thing I have realized is that dealing with both supervisors in the offide, and corporate USPS is like dealing with a gear up of parents who cannot hold on how to enhance their children.

I just finished Carrier Academy and they told us congratulations on getting through orientation...now forget everything they told you.

During orientation, we were told to NEVER finger the mail while WALKING...considering we could trip and autumn.

During Academy, we were told, if you DON'T finger while walking..nosotros could get written up, or some verbal alarm.

During Orientaion, we were told to ALWAYS Always ALWAYS lock the vehicle door...even if walking 3 feet abroad. During the driving examination practice..they had us park before a mailbox with an obstacle in forepart of it...secure vehicle, lock it and walk three feet to the box, go dorsum, unlock and movement.

During Academy, we were told that Yeah lock the door when we are out of sight...but if we lock the door when nosotros are walking in sight everytime, nosotros could get written upwardly considering it takes likewise much fourth dimension.

At that place is a lot of conflicting data, and everyone threatened us with our jobs and then information technology is hard to know WHAT the heck is the right affair to exercise.

thanks 1 user thanked for this useful post.

Welcome to the usps.  You take had a small dose of the way things really done at the po.  You come in to piece of work only to get accused of doing something the incorrect fashion.  The new way information technology is done now was changed ii months ago.  However management did non inform you of this until At present, but that is still no excuse for y'all non doing it the right fashion.  Merely do the best you can, collect your pay, and come to fedsoup to vent.Big smile

Good communication. You're starting to understand our frustration. There is a proper, safe way to do your chore, but this proper way takes too much fourth dimension. They will tell you to do as you're told so, file a grievance. Until, Sky forbid, you go hurt. And so they will say, I never told you to do it that manner.  That is why it e'er helps to continue a daily log to certificate instructions, hours, etc. no thing how small. Yous cannot trust them.

Every bit a city carrier told me just the other day during a one on i discussion about safety practices.  "They tell the states to always be safety ..... tomorrow.  Today, just get it done."
